ABOUT ME - IN BRIEF

Joshua 300dpi Headshot

Short Bio:

Joshua Rao began his musical journey at the age of five, studying piano with a deepening passion for the Romantic and Baroque periods. By his early teens, he was composing and arranging chamber music, later expanding into symphonic works inspired by composers like Thomas Bergersen.

He earned dual bachelor's degrees in Music Technology and Computer Science from Oakland University, graduating summa cum laude with departmental honors. During his time at OU, he was awarded the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship and a Piano Performance Talent Scholarship. For his senior project in music technology, he arranged orchestral adaptations of Medtner’s March of the Paladin,

Prokofiev’s Piano Sonata No. 3, and Chopin’s Ballade No. 1 in G minor.

Joshua has worked as an audio assistant to Terry Herald and as a production assistant for Katherine Boersma. He completed a recording internship under Matthew Pons at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and gained technical stage experience with IATSE Local 38. Most recently, at the request of Lisa and Cristina DiChiera, he transcribed and performed a lost two-piano work by Dr. David DiChiera, Lament, and is currently mixing the audio recording and
syncing it to video for its recorded re-premiere.
